May 23: “Invisible Years” book talk at the National Holocaust Museum in Amsterdam

By Stephen Naron - May 8, 2025
On May 23, Daphne Geismar will appear at the National Holocaust Museum in Amsterdam to present the Dutch edition of her book Invisible Years, a breathtaking and intimate portrait of her extended Jewish family living in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands.
This special event will include a presentation by Daphne about the book she created after finding an extensive family archive that told about her family members' lives under German occupation in the Netherlands. Through interwoven letters, diaries, and interviews, Geismar presents the story of nine family members—in their own words—alongside a trove of photographs and artifacts.
Daphne also wrote a film adaptation of the book together with  directors Kira Dane and Katelyn Robelo for which she received a Vlock Fellowship at the Fortunoff Video Archive. The film will be screened, followed by a panel discussion with Geismar; artist and writer Chaja Polak; and Gerda Brillenburg Wurth whose grandparents hid Geismar's grandparents in the attic of their church for two years. The discussion will be moderated by Stephen Naron.
