Video Installation: "We Lived ... In the Ninth District"

"We Lived ... In the Ninth District," a video installation featuring testimonies from Viennese Holocaust survivors is on view at the Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna, Austria. The installation in the Berggasse 19 showroom complements the special exhibition "The Freud Case: Documents of Injustice" at the Museum. Read more about the installation here.

Stephen Naron, director of the Fortunoff Archive, historian Julie Dawson, and filmmaker Ambrus Hernádi created this documentary using the resources of the Fortunoff Archive. The film features the testimonies of four women who grew up in Vienna.

In their testimonies, these four women recount their happy childhoods in Vienna that were disrupted by the Anschluss in 1938, followed by persecution, expulsion, oppression, and lives shaped by exile and traumatic memories. Their experiences are representative of the millions who, like Freud’s sisters, fell victim to the Holocaust.

The Museum is open Wednesdays to Mondays. Tickets may be purchased online.
