Primo Levi’s Homecoming, 1945-46: The Need to Bear Witness

By Stephen Naron - July 3, 2019

Lecture

This year marks the hundredth anniversary of Primo Levi's birth. To celebrate the centenary of Italy's revered and beloved survivor/witness of the Shoah, Yale will host Levi's biographer, Ian Thomson. Thomson will speak about how the author came to write his first great book, Se questo è un uomo, published in the United States as Survival in Auschwitz, and in the United Kingdom as If This Is a Man, the literal rendering of the Italian title. Thomson’s lecture is entitled "Primo Levi's Homecoming, 1945-46: The Need to Bear Witness."
