Type "HVT" before keyword to search Holocaust Video Testimonies.

Step 01 / Searching for a Testimony

All testimonies are searchable through our library catalog, Orbis. Enter the letters HVT at the start of your search string to limit the results to just the Fortunoff Archive streaming video. In the same search string, enter a search term, such as a town name, a concentration camp, or a ghetto. For a more comprehensive guide to searching, take a look at our Orbis Search tips page. For assistance with searching using our subject headings, click here to launch the guide. Please note that our catalog records truncate last names of those who gave testimony to protect their privacy. If you are looking for a specific person’s testimony, either shorten their last name to the first initial (“HVT Eva B.”) or contact the archive directly.

Step 02 / Request a Testimony to View

When you have located a testimony to view, click on the “request for use in Manuscripts and Archives” link, which is under the Location heading. This will take you to Your Special Collections Account, where you can log-in or register if you have not already done so.

Step 03 / Login or Create an Account for Special Collections

If you have not yet used testimonies at the Manuscripts and Archives reading room or at a partner location, you will need to create an account for Yale University Library’s Special Collections (Aeon) before your request will be viewed. You will be automatically redirected to login or register. If you are a Yale student, staff member, or faculty member, login with your CAS credentials on the left side of the page. If you are not part of the Yale community, select the “Create an account” link below the login on the right side of the page. This will take you to the page for creating an account and the terms of use agreement.

Step 04 / Submit Request for Approval

After you login or register, you will review the testimony information. If the information is correct, click the submit button. Until your request is approved, you will not be able to view the testimony. Please give up to three business days for Fortunoff Archive staff to approve your request. When your request is approved, you will receive an email informing you of this approval, with a link to watch the video, and directing you to go to the Fortunoff Archive or a partner site to view the testimony. If you are viewing the testimony at the Fortunoff Archive, please contact the archive to schedule an appointment in advance of your visit. If you are viewing a testimony at a partner site, please contact the partner site for instructions on registering and viewing the testimony. If you are requesting multiple testimonies to view, you can return to Orbis and submit more requests from each individual catalog record.
